Bacterial Analysis: Pyrosequencing of 16S
Genotyping applications largely depend on sequencing data (often 16S and 5S). Pyrosequencing can establish precise genetic sequence information because this technology sequences by synthesizing new copies of DNA template, and the results provide unambiguous data.
Pyrosequencing allows identification of a large number of species using a single conserved sequencing primer.
Depending on experimental assay design, pyrosequencing can be used to discriminate microbial species, types, and strains, or detect genetic mutations that confer resistance to antibiotics or antiviral drugs.
A growing number of pyrosequencing assays specifically target commonly studied pathogenic species and strains of bacteria, viruses, and fungi.
